Giving reptiles a fresh start in life...
Fresh Start Rescue Inc is a registered 501c3 animal rescue located in coastal North Carolina. We consist of a group of volunteers who are passionate about saving the lives of homeless, unwanted, or injured reptiles. We foster, rehab, and rehome every type of reptile out there, from snakes to lizards and everything in between.
Meet our team
The ones who started it all
PresidentLarge Lizard Specialist
Nicole Spencer is our President and Large Lizard Specialist. She lives on a farm in Pender County where she spends much of her time spoiling all of our foster iguanas. She is dedicated to the preservation of this amazing species and is constantly researching and learning the newest science behind iguana care.
Vice PresidentMarketing and Events
Mike Spencer is our Vice President. As a retired LEO, he has become the liaison between the rescue and many of the local animal control agencies. He spends much of his free time working the farm, which in turn helps support our rescue. He is also in charge of spreading the word about our rescue and finding new businesses to partner with us.
Rescue PartnerSnake Specialist
Kyle Wolf is our large snake specialist. He has been working with venomous and non-venomous snakes for many years, and is our go-to person for all snake questions. Kyle loves to work with large constrictors, do snake removals, and aspires to work with other types of exotics. We definitely could not do this without him.
The ones who make it all possible
Social Media Specialist
Raven is new to reptile ownership but she has a natural love and compassion for our scaly friends. She went from one adopted snake to taking in several of our fosters! Raven takes care of a lot of our New Hanover and Pender County needs.
Lynn handles all our geckos and small lizards. She has years of experience and a passion for the smallest of our foster friends. She currently works at a local PetSmart and helps keep all the adoption partner paperwork organized.
Hunter is the son of Mike and Nicole. He has literally grown up around iguanas and enormous snakes! When you find him at one of our community events, you can be sure his ball python, Jen, is close at hand.
Ryan comes to us with a ton of reptile experience. He jumped right in with the rescue and is now fostering, attending events and helping with projects at the farm.
And the Whole Family!
Andi is one of our newest volunteers and she brings with her an entire family of reptile lovers! They have jumped right in with helping with events, fostering, and even adopting a new forever friend.
Bridgit has been volunteering with us for a while. She comes out to the farm often to help with cleaning iguana cages. She also helps out at events when her work schedule allows.
Masters of converting coffee into customer satisfaction
Angelique is invaluable to our group. Not only is she a licensed vet tech but she also takes in all the scorpions and tarantulas, among other species.
Amanda and Bruce
Amanda and Bruce are our Jacksonville team. Together they have a love of all animals, and we're making sure their house slowly fills up with reptiles!
Braeden is our newest volunteer. He comes to us as a firefighter and EMT with a love of snakes. He took Herpetology classes in college and has a passion for venomous species.
Alex has been with a us a while and has gotten more involved as her schedule allows. She is now a big time realtor so if you need a house with a reptile room, we have you covered! :-)
Kaitlin and James
Kaitlin and James are our newest couple who didn't have any reptiles when they started. But don't worry we've already gotten them to adopt and foster a few snakes for us!
Hope and Donna
This mother/daughter team came to us recently. They love all animals and help out with different rescues as much as they can. Hope is working on becoming a vet tech in the future.
